| GWEN (STORYBEAD) ZISSLER |
The name Storybead was conferred upon me by a Lakota Sioux woman called Medicine Wolf White Eagle who is the one who encouraged me to express my creativity in a media I love…beading. My work is found in collections across the U.S. and in China. For me, beading is a spiritual thing—it’s a place I go to and find peace. I make everything from small anklets to full regalia outfits. I have developed ceramic vases and wall hangings I call Iroquois Wind Spirits. I also started producing ceramic vision seekers. Each piece has a voice of its own from one of your ancestors—listen closely, you may hear it! They are made out of ceramic that I fire, then add beads, feathers or leather components. They are designed to hang on a wall or sit on a table or shelf. Some have pockets that you may fill, and as with all of my work, each is one of a kind and comes from the heart.
