| Albert Goldman |
Albert Goldman was born in Toms Creek, Virginia, on August 12,1925. He is a self-taught artist. From early childhood, he could be found drawing or painting with watercolors in most of his free time. In 1971, he became more intensely involved in painting with acrylics and oils. Initially, his work was in the abstract realm, but then gravitated to the human figure. For the past 12 years, he has primarily painted landscapes of the midwestern and southwestern United States. The unique geologic formations and tremendous variability of the southwest landscape became the subjects of his paintings in which he captures the awe and serenity of nature’s captivating topography. Since 2002, his style varied from realistic landscapes to ones including abstract backgrounds which included indigenous flora and fauna. More recently he has been exploring surrealism and abstraction. He had been represented by Patla’s American West Gallery in Chicago prior to its closing in 1997 and by Naked Horse Gallery in Scottsdale in 1995. He was represented by Paradiso Décor Gallery in Scottsdale until its closing in 1996 and Saguaro Joe’s in Scottsdale until its closing in 2001. He was represented by Myra’s Gallery in Pine, Arizona, from 2005 until it closed in 2009 and is currently in the Down Street Art Gallery in Payson, Arizona. He has exhibited in Senior Artists Network Shows at the Cultural Center in Chicago from 1996-1999 and at Chicago’s James R. Thompson Center in March of 1998. In September, 1998, he was part of a two-man show at Peter Jones Gallery in Chicago. In April of 1999, his painting “Salt River Canyon” took second place at the Silver Artists Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona. He also exhibited in the Chicago Art Open in November of 1999-2001. In September of 2002, his newer works were shown at Stolizzo Gallery in Chicago, Illinois, and in a group show at High Risk Gallery in Chicago during February, 2003. He is currently exhibiting at the Down the Street Art Gallery in Payson, Arizona. In May, 2009, he exhibited in the outdoor art show in Pine, Arizona.
